WHO WE ARE...
KONR-LP 106.1FM “Out North Radio” is a low-power community FM radio station owned & operated by Out North, a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Anchorage, Alaska.

KONR-LP’s current broadcast range encompasses the Anchorage Bowl and Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. We also stream worldwide online at outnorthradio.com.
WHY UNDERWRITE ON KONR?
KONR-LP is one of the best ways Out North can advance our mission of supporting underrepresented voices in our Alaskan community. Our goal is to provide locally focused, locally created content, conversation and entertainment - while supporting local artists, emerging talent and bringing our community's diverse voices to the forefront. We’re a totally volunteer-operated enterprise. The programming on KONR-LP, which is put together by over 25 committed volunteers, includes 80 hours/week of locally produced music & talk shows. We're proud to play more Alaskan artists than any other radio station in the state.
Underwriting from businesses is one of the key sources of income for small non-commercial community radio stations. It is also a popular way for businesses to show that they are community oriented and support important community projects. All of our volunteers financially support the station. Underwriting is a way for us to offer a unique service to businesses and nonprofits while providing another funding source to help keep KONR-LP on the air.
WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
Your donation is completely tax-deductible and helps pay for studio rent, internet, annual music licensing fees, online streaming, web hosting, software as well as necessary equipment upgrades.
WHAT IS UNDERWRITING?
As a non-profit radio station, we are prohibited from airing advertisements. However, FCC regulations allow us to acknowledge our sponsors on air and broadcast sponsorship announcements. To ensure spots aired by KONR-LP are considered to be non-commercial in nature we strictly abide by the FCC guidelines below.
RULES OF UNDERWRITING
Besides identifying the funder clearly by name a spot may contain additional information such as location, contact information, website, neutral descriptions of products or services offered, company slogan (In compliance with FCC Guidelines), and reason for sponsorship. FCC guidelines limit the use of certain types of language and phrasing in underwriting, such as the following:
Example: “Support for KONR comes from Bill’s Super Duper Bait Shop -- Open Monday through Friday from 10am to 5pm in the Middle of Nowhere Mall. We’ve got your worms. Find us online at billsworms.com.”

- Endorsements (e.g. “recommended by 4 out of 5 doctors”).
- Demonstration of consumer satisfaction.
